The Battleground Democrats Welcome You To Their Website!

A nation of sheep begets a government of wolves.

Who We Are:

The Battleground Democrats
is a PAC (political action committee), registered with the Texas Ethics Commission.  A small group of us founded the Battleground Democrats shortly after our area was gerrymandered into Republican extremist Tom Delay's  federal congressional district.  (Note:  This seat is currently being held by another far-right Republican extremist, Pete Olson .)  Our membership consists of local citizens who have grown concerned with the way events are unfolding in our neighborhoods, our city, our state, our nation and the world at large.  Our goals are to organize our community, to register new Democratic voters, to engender public debate, and to make factual information available to everyone.  All of this is pursuant to our central mission, which is to ensure that competent, responsible, moral individuals are elected to public office at every level.

The Situation In Our Nation Today:
The efficient functioning of our Democracy is predicated on one simple assumption-- that we, the citizens of the United States of America, will inform ourselves, and then vote in accordance with the nation's long term self interest.

Unfortunately, the interests of our nation are frequently at odds with the goals of those whom Franklin Roosevelt labeled “Economic Royalty”, and other special interests. When this happens-- which is to say, almost always-- such groups are faced with a straightforward problem: How can they convince 51% of us to vote against our own rational self-interest?

Fortunately for them, the solution to their dilemma is relatively straightforward. Nazi propaganda chief Joseph Goebbels described the methodology succinctly:

If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it...
one fundamental principle... (must be) borne in mind constantly-- (the propaganda effort) must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over."

Not only is this is a tried and true method, it is exactly what is being done in America today.  The Republican propaganda machine-- aided, or perhaps driven by, Fox News, Clear Channel, and others-- maintains a periodically updated collection of so-called “talking points”.  They continuously repeat these lies, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  This steady drumbeat of propaganda cannot help but seep into the consciousness of the uninformed.  There, these Rightwing Republican talking points will frequently assume the mantle of actual data, or worse yet, of things that "everybody knows".

This ongoing campaign of Rightwing propaganda must be resisted.  Our nation simply cannot stand anymore of the mis-rule it has endured under recent Republican regimes.

Want to register to vote but don't know where to start?

There has never been a more important time for every sane, rational citizen to register to vote.  But if you have never registered before, it might seem like a daunting undertaking.  Fortunately, registering to vote is the easiest thing in the world.  Just print out this form, (from the Harris County Tax Office), fill it out and then mail it in.  If you have questions,  go to the Harris County Tax Office website.  If you would rather register in person, there are numerous locations in the Houston area where this can be done.  The one closest to Deer Park is the Kyle-Chapman Courthouse Annex building, located near the intersection of Spencer Highway and Center Street, directly behind Auto Zone.  Simply belly up to the counter and explain why you are there.  The professionals who work there will get you fixed up and answer any questions.  I have always found the people there to be friendly, efficient and helpful.  Note:  Registering to vote does not in any way increase your chance of being summoned for jury duty.  The pool of potential jurors is taken from the list of people with drivers' liscences.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  If you have already registered but have not voted recently, you should check to make sure that you are STILL registered.  The tax office makes periodic efforts to "clean up" the voter rolls.  If you have moved and not registered the change of address with the tax office, you may have been purged from the rolls-- or you may have been purged for other reasons.  The bottom line is that if you did not vote in the last election, you should check with them, and soon, to make sure that you are still registered!!  Call 713-368-2000.
